TAKE IT ALL OFF

Refundables:
The Savary Island Volunteer Fire Department places bins at a few locations to encourage islanders to drop off their refundable bottles and cans. This is a fund-raising activity for the Fire Department, run by volunteers. Your refundables are appreciated, but the volunteers cannot not handle your garbage. Please remove bottle tops and take away cardboard and plastic bags.  Bag up your garbage for transport off island.

Garbage disposal options:
  * Lund wharf. This location provides garbage disposal for a fee during the summer period.

* Lund store (when the Lund wharf is not in business). Tickets may be bought from the store to use their garbage bin.

* Green recycling bins are located in Powell River at the north end of the Town Centre Mall, and at Safeway.

* South of Powell River: the local dump accepts metal for free, and garbage which is charged by weight. It is convenient if you are heading for the Saltery Bay ferry.

* Right beside the dump is a recycling depot which accepts paper, cardboard, glass, cans and recyclable plastic.

  * Bruce Brown, of Riggers Restaurant, has a limited service for Savary Shores and the Front Row during summer.

Some tips:
* Composting is a good option for vegetable waste, coffee grounds, and egg shells.
* Sort paper, burn in the fireplace/stove or recycle off island.
* Rinse recyclable plastic, glass and cans before recycling off island.

Thanks for your help.

YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS is requested for future elections.

It is now possible to hold email elections that are as secure as mail-in ballots. SIC is aiming to switch over its election procedure from the older method of mail-in ballots to the electronic voting process.

Email ballots will involve the same requirements as the mail-in ballots. You, the voter, will be supplied a form to identify yourself as the legitimate recipient of the ballot. There will be only one email response accepted per email address, except where our records show more than one eligible voter at the same physical address, such as a spouse. However, for those of you without email addresses, or who choose not to release your email address to us, a regular mail-in ballot will be issued.

An email address database will also enable us to advise you of important issues facing Savary Island. Our emails will occasionally ask a referendum question as to how a specific issue might be handled, and may request donations for projects you wish to see initiated. We'll also let you know when next year's Savary calendars are ready, as calendar sales provide funds for our elections. We would never give or sell the email list to other parties, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Please help us complete a database of all Savary emails, by emailing the subject "E-list" to: savaryislandcommittee@shaw.ca

It's calendar time again!

Please send us your favourite Savary photo(s).  Photos that are large work best, with a .jpg file size of around 4 megabites (4000kb).  Screen size should be around 1024 x 768 points or larger for best quality.  Horizontal, rather than verticle shots, fill the calendar more effectively.  Photos chosen will win a free calendar.
